BFG – Medium Dump Pouch: A Pouch For When You Need It

Intended to augment a given range or battle belt system, the Medium Dump Pouch by Blue Force Gear provides the user a perfect and readily available place to drop non-essential items like expended magazines, SSE, or even just the random range gun bunny (ok not really).

Made overall from ULTRAcomp laminate that gives the anchoring point for the entire aid pouch a greater durability than 1000D nylon. Added is TEX 70 nylon thread throughout the pouch to ensure all stress points and edges retain their durability.

When deployed, the top of the Medium Dump Pouch features a “fish-trap” style lid that allows items to easily slide in, but prevents the contents from accidently escaping.

The rear uses Blue Force Gear’s patented Helium Whisper Attachment System that is also made from ULTRAcomp laminate. This ensures the pouch will remain attached to the belt regardless of the situation.

When stowed, the closure tab secures over the rolled-up dump pouch via hook-and-loop with Ball Loaded Index Point (BLIP) to ensure positive tactile sensation regardless of the situation.

  • Deployed Size: 8″ (L) x 8″ (H) x 2.5″ (W)

Product Evaluation Scores:

  • CostAverage (3/5): At $79.95 the Medium Dump Pouch is made from a moderate level of material that forms the pouch and its unique “fish-trap” style opening. Other market alternatives typically are open-mouth type designs and use mesh that lend them to be less secure and more lightweight, but also not as durable. Some comparable dump pouches to this size and design include the Fight Light Roll-Up Dump Pouch ($28.50) by Tactical Tailor or the SSE Pouch ($49) by First Spear, but again neither offer the “fly-trap” style lid. Thus, while the cost for the Medium Dump pouch is more than other common alternatives, the lid design accounts for the price difference.
  • Comfort Good (4/5): The 1000D nylon material was soft and pliable enough to be placed in the middle back of the belt, yet of sufficient low profile that it wasn’t uncomfortable when sitting in a car or chair. The “fly-trap” style opening was not of sizable bulk to poke or press against the back uncomfortably, but when driving magazines into the dump pouch gave it a suitable frame/opening in which to drop the item.
  • Durability – Excellent (5/5): Blue Force Gear has invested a significant amount of development into its ULTRAcomp laminate. As such the material has an abrasion resistance level greater than 1000D, and it is this material by which the entire dump pouch, including its Helium Whisper mounting system, is made. Thus, it held a surprising level of durability despite being loaded with magazines, keys, loose ammunition and used on a belt that was worn in shooting and stressor drills (front, back, go). Through it all, none of the contents were lost and the pouch itself held up well. The pouch also had TEX 70 bonded nylon thread (a threaded weight common in upholstery, leatherwork, and other heavy fabrics) throughout which likely aids in maintaining its stress points and was used overall for its superior chemical and mildew resistance.
  • Functionality Average (3/5): Because of its size when deployed, the Medium Dump Pouch accommodated roughly four 30-round rifle magazines (max) and still had room for smaller, loose items. The “fish-trap” style lid was unique in that items were easily pressed through, but by themselves couldn’t fall out against the enclosing material. It was a little difficult to reach into the dump pouch when fully loaded and retrieve those items, almost having to press against the lid material which secured the opening (so it was a balance between material to secure the opening and too much that prevented retrieval). When not deployed, the bottom of the dump pouch was rolled up and easily secured under the closure tab. The associated BLIP provided a solid contact point to pull and deploy the dump pouch.
  • Weight Average (3/5): At 121 grams, or 4.2 ounces, (empty) the lightweight ULTRAcomp laminate demonstrated the benefits of the material. It was light enough not to add significant weight to the belt when empty, nor sag when deployed and filled. In comparison, the Fight Light Roll-Up Dump Pouch is roughly 8 ounces, while the SSE pouch is roughly 2.5 ounces. So weight of Blue Force Gear’s Medium Dump Pouch is comparable to some of the lighter dump pouches on the market.

Overall Rating – Above Average (18/25)
