So this afternoon Facebook continued on from its previous efforts targeting the HGM LLC’s page, this time deleting both my personal Facebook page, as well as my “white knight” alt used to backup the LLC’s business one. I’m not as angry this time around losing the personal page, as I had only established it a year ago. It wasn’t like the last time where I lost 17 years of content.

This is very much a re-hash of the 2019 purges where Facebook arbitrarily deleted over 3.2 billion accounts, citing its need to remove fake profiles and “fight misinformation”. 1 It just happend to be concidential that this was ahead of the 2020 Presidential election that pitted (then) candidates Trump and Hillary Clinton against each other, amid the grip of the BLM movements, and other social “woke” issues. This was, and I beleive is now, a continued effort by Facebook to supress 2A and other Conservative voices on its platform. Previously, they used the “threat” of those associated to the Boogaloo movment to justify its actions, but this time its justification has not been made (although there was a recent Vice article citing return of former Boogaloo accounts back to Facebook). 2, 3
In some ways this is a possible blessing. Facebook is less appealing these days, especially to Conservatives and the various interest groups that I follow (i.e. firearms and gear). Facebook is losing its draw for newer generations, as platforms like TikToc and X (formerly Twitter) offer growing content and restrictions. Basically, platfroms that are everything Facebook isn’t are rising while Facebook deminishes. The question will be how long will it take the world’s largest social media platform to even notice?
As for HGM, oddly our Instagram page (which is owned by Facebook) is still going strong. The new Twitter account is up, and there is still the backups on MeWe and Gab. But thankfully, WordPress has never once taken issue with any of our content, and continues to allow the subjects we enjoy. Hopefully that will continue to be the case. I’m not entirely positive I want to go through the circus of creating a new Facebook account, as I just don’t feel it has as much value as it did in the past. Time will tell.
