A multi-use drill, the Bill Drill forces you to reconcile the differences in distance, with throttle control and body mechanics. Done correctly, the Bill Drill is a good diagnostic exercise that done “cold” requires a smooth, quick draw. This means consistency in your initial grip and weapon presentation is vital because if you’re off on either, the entire drill will be off. The other recommendation will be to avoid tensing up. The invariable action will be to drive “fast” and as a result tense up in the arms and trigger finger. But at this distance the goal is to relax, let the arms move smoothly and keep proper sight picture and trigger discipline.
Procedure:
At the buzzer, draw and fire six rounds center-mass. The goal should be all A-Zone hits.
- At the 3 yard line par time for draw and first round on target is 1.7 seconds.
- At the 5 yard line par time for draw and first round on target is 1.8 seconds.
- At the 7 yard line par time for draw and first round on target is 2 seconds.
