Introduced by Vortex in 2026 just prior to SHOT Show, the AMG 1-10×24 First Focal Plane (FFP) rifle optic is the latest in the LPVO class of optics, designed to meet stringent requirements for military and field applications. The optic’s compact size makes it ideal for carbine rifles, while its variable magnification and EBR-9 reticle allows for end-users to cover a variety of distances.
With its overall length of approximately 8.4”, the AMG® 1-10×24 FFP provides a lightweight, ultra-rugged optic suited for duty rifles, competition carbines, or backcountry hunting setups. With a single-piece housing constructed from aircraft-grade aluminum, the 34mm main tube and 24mm objective lens diameter maintain durability while minimizing weight—a defining features of the AMG line.
Its adjustable eyebell assembly provides the 1-10x magnification range with a consistent and forgiving eye relief of 3.3”, and allows for transition from close-quarters engagement while still maintaining precision at extended distances. The optic is argon gas purged, with O-ring that seal the optic for waterproof performance and fog proof reliability across harsh environmental conditions.
Features within the AMG optic include Vortex’s premium optical system designed to deliver exceptional resolution, edge-to-edge clarity, and superior light transmission. The high-quality glass elements are apochromatic and work to reduce false colors across the complete visual spectrum of light, while maintaining sharp contrasting sight picture across all magnification ranges.
The reticle is glass-etched and positioned in the first focal plane, allowing holdovers and ranging to remain accurate at any magnification. The lenses utilize Vortex’s XR™ Plus fully multi-coated system and Armortek to maximize brightness and clarity while maintaining scratch resistance. The illuminated reticle is powered by a single CR2032 battery, offering extended runtime suitable for operational or field use.
The illumination control features a refined 11-position dial system with multiple brightness settings, including night-vision compatible and daylight-bright options that allows the shooter to adapt quickly to changing lighting conditions. OFF positions are indexed between each brightness setting.
Both the tool less elevation and windage turrets are low-profile and capped to prevent unintentional adjustments, while still allowing for precise tracking when needed. Adjustments for the EBR-9 MRAD reticle are tactile, and repeatable in 0.1 increments. The optic utilizes a fixed parallax setting at 250 yards for practical engagement ranges. The two turrets can be set to dual zeros that allow for rapid change between established distances.

Developed primarily for military and federal or state law enforcement applications, it is optimized for rapid target acquisition across the most common engagement distances encountered in support roles. Comparable optics in terms of features include the EOTech Vudu 1-10×28 FFP Riflescope (~$1,690.23), the Nightforce ATACR 1-8×24 F1 (~$2,800), and the Trijicon Credo 1-8×28 FFP (~$1,399.99). While these alternatives offer similar performance on paper, they are generally heavier due to more traditional construction methods, manufactured overseas, or limited to 8x magnification rather than the AMG’s full 1–10x range. Given the AMG’s recent release and limited civilian availability, its pricing aligns more fairly with its intended professional users utilizing federal/state funds, reflecting its advancements in clarity, weight reduction, and overall performance, though for civilian applications it remains a premium option relative to existing alternatives and typical use cases.
- Comfort – Good (4/5): From a comfort aspect, the AMG 1–10×24 had several features that were comfort-oriented in its design, particularly during extended periods of carry and repeated target engagements. Its lightweight construction significantly reduced front-end fatigue whole holding the rifle aloft and helped maintain better rifle balance, which was especially noticeable during longer movement sequences and transitions between positions. The eye relief and eyebox proved forgiving, allowing for quick sight acquisition with minimal head adjustment even from awkward or non-standard shooting angles. The magnification ring and control interfaces operated smoothly (albeit stiffly for being new) and predictably, enabled rapid adjustments without breaking shooting rhythm or requiring excessive force. Optical clarity and edge-to-edge sharpness reduced eye strain looking through the optic over time, which provided a consistently clean sight picture, while the daylight-bright illuminated reticle remained easy to see across changing light conditions or shadow without forcing the shooter to over-focus.
- Durability – Good (4/5): Over the course of the review, the AMG 1–10×24 demonstrated strong overall durability, supported by its rigid 34mm single-piece aircraft-grade aluminum tube, which consistently maintained zero under repeated recoil and rough handling. Its fully O-ring sealed and argon-purged construction effectively prevented fogging and moisture intrusion during rapid temperature shifts and humid Missouri mornings, while its exterior coatings and lens treatments resisted abrasion from dust, brush, and incidental contact. Some surface marring was observed over time from contact with hard surfaces and tools; however, this wear remained purely cosmetic and did not penetrate to the base metal, reflecting the hardness and resilience of the exterior finish. One noted drawback was the relatively shallow notching on the turret adjustments, which occasionally caused coins or tools to slip during use and contributed to minor minor surface marring. Despite these signs of wear, the optic’s structural integrity and tracking performance remained unaffected, and it continued to operate consistently across varied field conditions without any degradation in function. The AMG was also backed by Vortex Optics’ VIP Warranty, which provides repair or replacement with a no-questions-asked policy.
- Functionality – Excellent (5/5): During range usage, the AMG 1–10×24 consistently demonstrated excellent functional performance, with its 1–10x magnification range and integrated throw lever allowing rapid (albeit somewhat stiff), controlled transitions between close-quarters targets (~5yds) and extended-distance engagements (~300yds) without requiring the shooter to break position. The magnification ring prevented unintentional movement while still enabling quick adjustments under pressure. The elevation and windage turrets remained secure throughout movement and handling, effectively eliminating accidental input, while still allowing precise adjustments when needed; tracking remained repeatable, and the optic showed no observable zero shift or point-of-impact deviation under sustained recoil impulse across multiple firing strings. Another added feature for performance was the dual-locking rings on each turret that afforded quick transition between two established zeros. The fixed parallax setting proved appropriate for typical engagement distances, maintaining a clear and consistent sight picture without the need for significant adjustment in the focal ring. The integrated illumination system provided a broad range of brightness settings, including two night-vision-compatible levels, allowing the reticle to remain visible without bloom under NVGs while still offering daylight-bright performance in full sun. However, prolonged use under NVGs at the brighter of the two settings did result in some “burn” into the photonic sensor of the night vision device by the illuminated reticle that was later resolved. Together, these features contributed to a stable, responsive optic that supported rapid engagement, maintained zero integrity, and adapted effectively to varied lighting and environmental conditions encountered throughout the evaluation period.
- Weight – Good (4/5): With an emphasis on weight reduction as a core design priority, the AMG 1–10×24 distinguished itself by coming in at 18.8 ounces—noticeably lighter than similar optics in its class while it maintained a full 1–10x magnification range and first focal plane functionality. Comparable alternatives; such as the EOTech Vudu 1-10×28 FFP Riflescope (33.6 ounces), the Nightforce ATACR 1-8×24 F1 (21 ounces), and the Trijicon Credo 1-8×28 FFP (26 ounces) illustrate the trade space: while the ATACR approaches the AMG in weight, it does so with a reduced 1–8x magnification range, and both the Vudu and Credo carry additional weight likely attributable to more traditional construction and design choices. In this context, the AMG’s weight was appropriate as it delivered a combination of lightweight handling and extended magnification without a significant compromise in durability or optical performance that was neither unbalancing to the rifle or fatiguing while held up. That said, while the AMG led in light weight among true 1–10x optics, it does not dramatically undercut all competitors in absolute terms of performance, particularly when compared to high-end 1–8x designs, meaning its advantage is most pronounced when both weight and magnification performance are considered together rather than as sole factors.
