Known for its variety of tactical nylon accessories and plate carriers, HRT Tactical offers a variety of accessory and magazine inserts and hangers. Of these is the Multi Hanger Pouch (MHP) designed in conjunction with Warrior Poet Society. With a generous male/female hook-and-loop tab, the MHP can be configured to fit a variety of accessories in different configurations.
Made from a 500D INVISTA Denier Cordura elastic cuff, with an extension hook-and-loop panel, the MHP can be inserted vertically or horizontally into any associated belt or plate carrier connection (with a forward-facing hook-and-loop cummerbund). The panel material itself helps ensure that proper function between the mating fields of the equipment maintains its operational function.
The MHP has a dividing band of nylon that allows it to be used ambidextrously and ensures the contents are always at hand. Also, by moving some contents to a dedicated side pouch, the MHP offers to free up valuable MOLLE space on a plate carrier or belt.
The MHP can be used to retain a variety of contents to include: a full-sized rifle magazine, smoke or flashbang grenades, medical packs, hand-held radios and more.

- Cost – Good (4/5): At $16.95 the MHP is similar to the TQ Pouch in that it is again a simple hanger that allotted for the inclusion of an extra magazine, radio, compression dressing and TQ, or other items. This can alleviate the need to purchase extra pouches when considering layout to a plate carrier. In comparison, even though there isn’t a market comparator, the simplest spare MOLLE rifle pouch can cost upwards of $20 or more for the same functionality. This gave the MHP a good level of cost balance with material and function.
- Comfort – Good (4/5): The 500D nylon material of the MHP and elastic cuff provided an expected level of support and thus offered an ideal level of retention for a magazine or similar sized object. Depending on where the associated mounting pouch was positioned, the MHP was either readily accessible on the sides of a plate carrier, or secured inside the slots for side armor plates. Drawing magazines from the MHP was smooth provided the user was pulling straight out, if the draw angle (due to curvature of the body or position) was not in line, the deployment was notably tighter. Drawing other items, such as radios or medical items sometimes lacked that retention if they were smaller than the dimensions of a rifle magazine.
- Durability – Good (4/5): The main material of the MHP was made from 500D Cordura with a hook-and-look panel of similar make. During evaluation the MHP by itself had a high-degree of durability, and retained its function throughout. The reversible divider had a good level of box/X-pattern reinforced stitching to ensure longevity. Over time some minimal fraying was noted along the edging of the MHP’s edges, but that was comparable to other similar products and usage. But none of it rose to the level to compromise the integrity of the product.
- Functionality – Average (3/5): Functionally the MHP was very simplified, and did exactly what it was intended to do (provide an ambidextrous additional pouch to cummerbund-type plate carriers). Add to that, the MHP was mountable to any plate carrier or belt with an ensuing panel of hook-and-loop, the product had a wide array of applicability. By itself, the MHP was as good for securing a magazine as other dedicated pouches, just without the excess materials or shock cord. While easily deployed one-handed, re-holstering a magazine into the MHP also was easily done with a single hand. Converting the MHP from left-side usage to right-side usage was also easily accomplished simply by drawing the divider from one side to the other. Smaller items aside from rifle magazines were able to be held securely provided additional items were combined to fill up and excess space. In evaluations, a BaoFeng hand held radio worked well, as did the combination of a pressure dressing and TQ. One recommendation to HRT in further improvements would be to widen the ambidextrous divider because if smaller items could not fill up the space, they easily fell through with no wide base to support it.
- Weight – Good (4/5): At 1.0 ounces (empty), the MHP had a good degree of minimal weight thanks in large part to its nylon material and hook-and-loop panel. The system drastically reduced the overall materials and corresponding weight needed in comparison to other dedicated magazine pouches. For instance, an HSGI rifle pouch weighs approx. 2.88 ounces whereas a First Spear’s Single Mag Shingle is 1.97 ounces – both of which demonstrate that the Multi Hanger Pouch can offer the user the same applicability at a fraction of the weight.
