Revised in 2022 as the Slim Tear Off Medical Pouch (STOMP) Gen 2 by Coyote Tactical Solutions, this individual first aid kit (IFAK) has a tear-away envelope and can be utilized as either a carrier-mounted aid kit or attached to the belt.
Made predominantly from laminate nylon and 500D Cordura, the GEN 2 measures a total of 7.0” (L) x 4.0” (H) x 1.5”(W) and is designed to hold a variety of medical items for use in the field. Moreover, the Gen 2 is a two-part system where the outer laminate nylon wrap holds and secures the three-sided, zipper secured medical pouch.
The IFAK itself is retained by an outer wrap that encloses around the pouch and secures at the front via 1” slide-release buckle. The outward-facing exterior of the wrap is laser-cut and slotted for a medical marking tab that is reflective on one side, and matte black on the other. The over-the-top side of the wrap is also laser-cut for MOLLE-compatible attachments (specifically for tourniquets, shears, or other items).
The rear of the outer wrap secures to the belt or carrier via two MOLLE-compatible bands.
The IFAK portion of the Gen 2 is detachable from the outer flap, but secured via a corresponding panel of hook-and-loop that provide a tear-away function, and use of the IFAK apart from the belt or carrier. A three-sided YKK continuous zipper line secures the contents, but allows the IFAK to open and lay flat when needed.
The bottom of the Gen 2 includes two elastic nylon cuffs for attaching a tourniquet or other item, and a single drainage grommet.
On the interior, the STOMP Gen 2 IFAK includes two laminate nylon interior panels (one each side) with a field of MOLLE compatible laser-cut for customized arrangement of the included lengths of shock cord. The shock cord is also adjusted with a slide-release cinch. This allows the end-user to secure necessary medical items regardless of dimensions.
The interior panels are attached along three sides, with an opening at the top to allow flat items to be inserted behind the panels for additional storage.
The STOMP Gen 2 is available is available in Multicam or Ranger Green (featured), Black, Coyote Brown, and M81 Woodland.

- Cost – Good (4/5): With an MSRP of $74.99, the cost of the STOMP Gen 2 reflects its volume of Cordura and laminate nylon present within the pouch’s simple yet efficient design. The clamshell approach of the IFAK allows the pouch to fully open (via genuine YKK zipper) and grants the end user the greatest level of access the organized contents. In contrast, examples of IFAK market alternatives of similar size would be the Tear-Away Hybrid Pouch ($265 and only comes with a medical insert) by CRO Medical, Rogue Gen 2 IFAK ($69.50) from Tactical Tailor, the Intermediate Lower Back Medical Pouch ($89.95) from TYR Tactical, the Roll 1 Trauma Pouch ($85.00) from Ferro Concepts, or the AFAK ($99.99) from Aptus Design Group. As such, these variations show that amid the market of IFAKs, the Gen 2 pouch is of a good price point given the materials and design.
- Comfort – Average (3/5): From a comfort aspect, the weight of the Gen 2 was of an appropriate (or of average) mass for its nylon material, wrap, and insert with MOLLE straps adequately spaced so as not to be unbalancing on a carrier or belt. With its minimalist and soft profile, the IFAK did not have excess bulk or bands on the exterior that projected off the pouch and could have otherwise limited range of motion or snagged on objects/hard corners. The YKK zipper moved easily along the three sides of the IFAK and did not bind around the corners. The single slide-release buckle did not bind and released easily, while the hook-and-loop that secured the IFAK to the retention flap kept its secure hold throughout the review period (yet still released when pulled). One area of minor concern was how the design secured a tourniquet at the bottom of the IFAK. It was somewhat redundant for both the cuffs and the slide-release buckle of the flap to hold the tourniquet to the bottom of the IFAK, though understandably this was to provide double the retention. But, it also made drawing the tourniquet out to one side difficult, due to some binding between the two. Coyote Tactical may want to examine alternatives to the tourniquet retention in future designs.
- Durability – Average (3/5): The durability of the nylon (both Cordura and laminate) held up appropriately (or of average) given the 500D material and despite abrasive contact with gear, vegetation, and movement. As such, the Gen 2 IFAK handled the friction of being placed on the belt and worn throughout dynamic movement with no evidence of thread wear or fabric separation. The pouch’s minimalist interior had little in terms of bulk (once medical items were added) that could otherwise snag or hinder access. Bartack and double-line stitching was noted along key stress points to the MOLLE webbing on the rear, the retention flap, the sides of the interior laminate panels that connect to the IFAK, and along the zipper line that added reinforcement to the overall pouch. Perhaps the most notable sign of wear that came over time was from use of the elastic shock cord as the continual tension generated by cinching the medical contents cause some deformation in the laser-cut slot that it was threaded through. End-users should be aware that excessive tensioning of the shock cord will have that effect and is not necessary considering the contents are also secured inside the zippered pouch itself.
- Functionality – Good (4/5): Functionally, the Gen 2 IFAK did a good job of doing what it was intended for—to provide a tear-away pouch that held immediate medical items with enough flexibility for odd-shaped items. It had a flush profile, and retained items inside well. The Gen 2 separated from the retention flap easily with both hands, or with just one. The IFAK and interior itself was unstructured, and the laminate nylon panels on the inside of the IFAK did not fold/collapse when items were placed inside the pouch. However, if irregular items like rolled gauze were placed inside there was a corresponding bulge in the pouch as a result. This was exacerbated if two were attached to the interior on opposing sides (and thus pressing against each other when the IFAK was closed). However, with the extensive laser-cut MOLLE field on the interior panels, there was plenty of ways to configure the contents as needed. A recommendation to Coyote Tactical would be to consider adding a semi-rigid insert to the IFAK to prevent the excessive bulging when contents are enclosed inside the pouch.
- Weight – Average (3/5): With a measured weight of 8.0 ounces, the mass for the STOMP Gen 2 IFAK was due to mainly its reasonably light nylon material, minimal hardware, and absence of traditional MOLLE bands on the exterior. The Gen 2 was neither unbalancing off the belt, nor pulled the material down (provided a quality belt is used). Obviously, as more medical items were added to the Gen 2, the heavier it became. When compared to the market alternatives; the Rogue Gen 2 IFAK (5.0 ounces) from Tactical Tailor, the Intermediate Lower Back Medical Pouch (7.87 ounces) from TYR Tactical, the Roll 1 Trauma Pouch (5.0 ounces) from Ferro Concepts, or the AFAK (7.3 ounces) from Aptus Design Group all illustrate overall that for its material and design the STOMP Gen 2 IFAK are appropriately (or of average) weight amid the market and for its competitors.
