The “Runeation Cold Start Drill” is an assessment drill developed by Rune Nation LLC. It is performed prior to beginning any live-fire training, and gives the shooter a means to assess how your skills compare without sufficient warm up or conditioning. The Cold Start Drill is a dual-use, low-round count drill that focuses on target acquisition, magazine change, and basic carbine or handgun fundamentals.

• Each drill is shot from the holster (pistol) or low-ready (carbine).
• Each round is scored as 1 point.
• Each round outside the target zone is 0 points.
• Each round after the time limit is 0 points.
• Min Points allowed: 16

Pistol: (2×8-round magazines, 1×magazine to max capacity)

• Distance: 3m
• At buzzer:
  • 1 round to any low probability shape (smaller square, triangle, circle, or diamond).
  • Transition, 3 rounds to larger, high-probability logo shape.
  • Transition to another low-probability shape (your choice) and continue sequence until all low-probability shapes have 1 round each, and the high probabilty shape has 12 rounds.
  • Reload as necessary
• Par time for pistol: 12 seconds

Carbine: (2×8-round magazines, 1×magazine to max capacity)

• Distance: 5m
• At buzzer:
  • 1 round to any low proability shape (smaller square, triangle, circle, or diamond).
  • Transition, 3 rounds to larger, high-probability logo shape.
  • Transition to another low-probability shape (your choice) and continue sequence until all low-probability shapes have 1 round each, and the high probabilty shape has 12 rounds.
  • Reload as necessary
• Par time for pistol: 18 seconds
